Part of a local exhibit called :
"Face to Face:  A Study in Portraiture "

This piece is called  "Lifespan" and seeks to explore the process of fading from one stage of our lives to the next - taking a bit of our former selves but also adding experiences, knowledge, physical changes, etc, to make us into someone entirely new.   To some we fade out of existence...to others we fade into prominence.

Press release:
ST. JOSEPH MERCY OAKLAND SELECTS MICHIGAN ARTISTS TO PROVIDE
ARTWORK FOR NEW SOUTH PATIENT TOWER
Eighty-Four Artists Chosen;  Works Will Depict Peace and Healing in a Variety of Media

"Pontiac, Mich.—St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) has selected 84 Michigan artists to provide
artwork for its new South Patient Tower scheduled to open in 2014.
A call for artists issued this spring by SJMO requested submissions that support the healing
journey, represent the community and present elements of nature or water and landscapes. Peace
and healing is the dominant theme of the art project. The SJMO arts program is aimed at
creating an experience that heals bodies, nurtures souls and comforts hearts.
Submissions represented a variety of media, including sculpture; two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork; original art; oil, watercolor and acrylic paintings; limited edition prints,
giclee prints, mixed-media art, glass, mosaics, wall sculpture, fabric art, collages and
photography.
The newly acquired artworks, both purchased and commissioned, will be placed in the new main
lobby, elevator lobbies, waiting rooms, corridors, consultation rooms, patient rooms and public
areas.
More than 225 artists from throughout Michigan applied to have their artwork considered.
Aesthetics, Inc., of San Diego, Calif., is coordinating the art project with SJMO leadership.
Funding for the artwork is being provided by private donors."
